Marana Fastpitch - Baja Youth Softball

Code of Conduct
Player Code of Conduct & Violation Consequences
Player Code of Conduct Pledge
As a Marana Fastpitch player, I represent my team and the league. The adult volunteers are here to help me learn softball skills, but they also want me to have fun and love the game. Marana Fastpitch will provide a positive environment, and I share the responsibility to help create that environment for my teammates and opposing teams.

I understand that to play for Marana Fastpitch, I must display behavior conducive to good sportsmanship, respect, positive support, and the development of friendships in the spirit of competition.

I understand that any infraction of the BAJA rules or this Code of Conduct places me in direct violation and subjects me to disciplinary action, including the consequences listed below.
I Pledge To:
  • Be a good sport. Win or lose, be honest, fair and always show good sportsmanship. Play by the rules and resolve conflict without hostility or violence. I will not display outbursts of anger.
  • Show courtesy and respect to all teammates, parents, opponents and coaches regardless of race, creed, color, nationality, gender or ability. I will support my teammates and cheer for my team, not against the opponent.
  • Refrain from rude behavior, profanity, and the use or discussion of alcohol, tobacco, or drugs on or off the field.
  • Learn the value of commitment to the team and put personal goals aside for the betterment of the team. I will always try my best and be on time or communicate to the coach if I cannot attend.
  • Respect the officials and their authority. I will never question, discuss, or confront coaches or umpires on the game field. Instead, I will speak with coaches or umpires at an agreed upon time and place. I understand umpires are human and will make mistakes and I will show grace.
  • Have fun.

Coach/Manager Code of Conduct Pledge
I know, as a member of the coaching staff, that I am always held to a higher standard on and off the field. I pledge to provide an environment for players, managers, coaches, and other staff and volunteers that is conducive to good sportsmanship, respect, positive support, and the development of friendships in the spirit of competition.

I understand that any infraction of the rules or the Code of Conduct will place me in direct violation of this Code of Conduct and subject me to the consequences listed below.

I understand that it is my responsibility to attempt to address any incidents at the time of their occurrence or ask for assistance from the umpire or a league official. I also understand that all incidents must be reported to league board officials immediately and that at any point in time, the umpire and league officials have the right to ask any parent, coach, manager, or spectator to leave the park if they act in an unsportsmanlike manner.
In order to be a successful coach or manager, I pledge to:
  • Treat each player as an individual, remembering the emotional and physical development of each participant. I understand players have different abilities, and the true measure is not how they compare to others, but how they are doing in comparison to their best selves.
  • Do my best to provide a safe playing situation for all players. I will abstain from drugs, tobacco, and alcohol at all games and other BAJA activities. I will ensure that parents and their guests understand that having drugs, tobacco, or alcohol at any BAJA event is in direct violation of the Code of Conduct.
  • Place the emotional and physical wellbeing of my players ahead of a personal desire to win.
  • Do my best to organize practices that are both fun and challenging for all players, with the focus of teaching softball fundamentals and improving skills.
  • Encourage good sportsmanship by demonstrating positive support for and respectful interactions with all players, coaches, and umpires at every game or practice. I will honor the game and encourage respect from players, parents, and their guests. I understand that physical assault and vulgar, demeaning, or obscene language or gestures toward any staff, BAJA officials, umpires, players, or parents is in direct violation of the Code of Conduct.
  • Be knowledgeable of the rules of BAJA softball. If I have questions about a rule, I will address those questions with a BAJA league representative and or the umpire prior to the start of a game. If I question the interpretation of a rule during a game, I will address concerns in a professional and respectful manner.
  • Remember that I am a youth sports coach or manager and that the game is for children, not adults.
